SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY AT CARBONDALE
Renovate Wheeler Hall 1993 (CDB-825-020-069)
Interior and exterior renovation of a two-story historic structure occupied by the School of Medicine; scope involved
expansion to the third (attic) floor level and new mechanical/
electrical building systems. Total window and roof replacement
and restoration of interior finishes, doors, trim and millwork
included. This renovation was featured in the winter 1993-94 issue of the
Alumnus magazine and received the 1993 bi-annual design award from
the Southern Illinois AIA Chapter.
Degree of Formal Involvement: Lead firm; Bill Stein was Project and Design Architect and was in charge of production quality coordination and
preparation of specifications.

Biological Sciences Building - Phase I 1993-95 (CDB-825-020-070)
A two story with mechanical penthouse building of approximately 81,000
square feet housing biological sciences laboratories, offices, a vivarium and
related support spaces. Design Architect was Schmidt, Garden & Erikson, Inc.
of Chicago.
Degree of formal involvement: Stein/Eggemeyer associated with SGE to
provide local representation and construction observation. Bill Stein was
actively involved throughout the construction period and closeout.
Biological Sciences Building - Phase II Annex 1994-95 (CDB-825-020-070)
An addition of 9,500 square feet to the Phase I project providing a lecture
hall and related areas. Design Architect was Schmidt, Garden & Erikson, Inc.
of Chicago.
Degree of formal involvement: Stein/Eggemeyer associated with SGE to
provide local representation and construction observation. Bill Stein was
actively involved throughout the construction period and closeout.
Closeout Services 1996-97 (CDB-825-020-070)
Since Schmidt, Garden & Erikson, Inc. declared bankruptcy prior to the
completion and closeout of the above projects, Stein/Eggemeyer was retained by
the Capital Development Board to assist with their finalization. The firm handled
all administrative tasks required to facilitate closeout.
Engineering Building - Section E 1995-97 (CDB-825-020-072)
A 88,000 square feet multi-level major addition to the School of Engineering
building complex designed by Phillips, Swager Associates, Inc. of Peoria.
Degree of formal involvement: Stein/Eggemeyer associated with Phillips, Swager
Associates, Inc. to provide observation and to assist with construction,
administration and closeout.

Replace Cooling Tower Screens/Components, Neckers Building 1996-97 (CDB-825-020-099)
This project involved replacement of roof top cooling tower components, piping
and repair as well as removal/replacement of screening for cooling tower equipment
and upgrading of structural supports with Bernhardt Structural Engineering as
consultant.
Degree of formal involvement: Lead firm in charge of production quality/coordination and construction documents.
Construct Electron Microscopy Building 1996-97 (CDB-825-020-106)
A new single story 5,200 square feet structure to house electron microscopy
laboratories and support services.
Degree of formal involvement: Lead firm in association with Severns, Reid &
Associates of Champaign who provided planning and design; Stein/Eggemeyer
developed the design and construction documents and provide construction
observation and administration and closeout.

This project involved renovations to existing buildings to make compliant entrances and restrooms for ADA regulations.
